Whistling has now been declared sexual harassment at Tennessee State University.
The public university in Nashville has recently updated its discrimination handbook – listing more than 20 things that constitute sexual harassment.
Some of these are obvious, like “sexual threats” or “inappropriate touching” – but one is raising eyebrows for its vagueness: whistling suggestively.
Campus officials, however, have claimed they would consider the “totality of the circumstances” before expelling students for whistling. But given the state of kangaroo courts on college campuses, merely whistling could land someone in a world of trouble.
The College Fix, which first broke the story, reached out to the school for clarification on the policy, and to see if there was, in fact, a significant “whistling” epidemic on campus.
Tennessee State University did not respond.
