White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Harrison Fields criticized Democratic California Rep. Maxine Waters on Fox Business Friday, suggesting that her retirement would be a good thing for the U.S. Capitol.

During the Democrats’ annual issues retreat in Northern Virginia Friday, Waters accused President Donald Trump of trying to incite violence and start a civil war through disruptive policies like imposing tariffs, firing federal employees, and empowering Elon Musk to dismantle government services. In an appearance on “The Evening Edit,” Fields responded and said Waters is “not a credible voice” and recounted her past calls for confrontational protests against Republicans.

“Maxine Waters is another good reason why we need term limits. This is a woman that entered Congress before I was even born. At 86 years old, she is still spewing the same crazy stuff that she spewed over 30 years ago,” Fields told host Elizabeth MacDonald. “Maxine Waters is not a credible voice.”

Fields continued by referencing Waters’ past remarks encouraging confrontations with Republicans.

“She was the same Maxine Waters that a couple of years ago was telling people to hit the streets, get in the faces of Republicans, and yell and scream and carry on,” Fields said. “She’s not a serious woman. She is an agitator who is not becoming of a congresswoman. No one should take her seriously. Hopefully she will retire because the U.S. Capitol will be a whole lot better without her in it.”

MacDonald then pointed to a broader sense of disconnect within the Democratic Party and cited recent polling indicating Americans are tired of pandemic shutdowns, social justice riots, and ongoing mandates.

“They’re still scratching their heads on how they lost. Listen, I just got back from the Department of Justice with the president of the United States in which he pledged alongside Attorney General Pam Bondi to make America safe again, to arrest and prosecute those crazy criminals that we see in Trump Tower, in Columbia University, and all across this nation that are not protesting,” Fields said. “These people are engaging in violence, and they’re engaging in illegal protests that should not be tolerated. When you become a threat to society in the name of protesting, you are now a criminal, and you will be taken care of under this Department of Justice.”

Waters said in 2021 that President Trump was capable of inciting a civil war. Waters has also previously said that Trump should be charged with premeditated murder for the events of Jan. 6.

The Democrats have been attempting to block Trump’s agenda through legal challenges spearheaded by the Democratic National Committeeeducation organizations, and teachers unions. These groups are actively opposing the administration’s proposed cuts to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. They are urging educational institutions to defy these measures.
