During a CPAC 2023 event hosted by Ben Ferguson, Senators Ted Cruz and J.D. Vance participated in a podcast-like discussion. They talked about their roles as Senators and the aftermath of COVID-19, including the increasingly accepted lab leak theory.
When Ferguson inquired about the Republican minority in the Senate, Cruz responded:
“Every day the Schumer Senate is not in session is a day they’re not destroying America.”
Cruz commented on the COVID-19 Wuhan lab leak and criticized those who enforced the country’s lockdown measures. He expressed gratitude that American citizens can now gather in large groups again and discussed the initial hysteria surrounding the virus, which he claims has subsided now that Americans are more aware of its relatively low lethality. He then talked about the lab leak theory, which was previously considered a fringe conspiracy theory but is now gaining more legitimacy.
Vance shared a personal anecdote about his pregnant wife who tested positive for COVID-19 and was asked to wait during labor in December 2021, otherwise, she would need to wear a full mask. He expressed disbelief at this story and believed it to be an offensive example of the absurdities surrounding COVID-19.
Both Cruz and Vance called for accountability for Dr. Fauci and accused him of lying under oath and suppressing dissenting speech about COVID-19. However, they acknowledged that there are hurdles to overcome, including the need for Attorney General Merrick Garland to move forward with accusations of perjury against Fauci, which Vance is doubtful will happen for political reasons.
Sen.Cruz is a good man, and senator. I hope that he has come to understand that he is not eligible for the office of POTUS – or that of VP either, for that matter – and understands fully, and appreciates, the reason why, as any conservative/constitutionalist should.
For, one of the eligibility requirements for those two federal offices – and those two only; signifying their special nature in the eyes of the constitutional Framers, having to do with the fact that the occupant of the higher office, to which the VP might accede, becomes as well, then, the Commander in Chief of the nation’s military forces – is that the person needs to be a ‘natural born’ citizen. What is a nbc? It is a person, quote, “born in the country, of parents who are citizens” thereof. (The definition is from the definitive tome of the day of the Framers on such nation-building matters, E. de Vattel’s ‘The Law of Nations’. And that eligibility requirement for those two specific federal offices only STILL STANDS, absent a constitutional amendment to the contrary.) His parentage does not conform to that requirement. (The point of which is to make sure that the occupant of the office of POTUS has NO DUAL OR OTHERWISE CONFLICTING LOYALTIES OR ALLEGIANCES OR INFLUENCES. Has SOLE ALLEGIANCE to the U.S.)
One might think that Cruz, a lawyer by trade, would know all this. But the historical record on the issue was muddied with the Naturalization Act of 1790, which came up with a different interpretation of the definition. However, that error was caught and reversed by the Naturalization Act of 1795 – which was signed off on by no less an authority than the man fairly called the Father of the Constitution, James Madison, serving at the time in the House of Representatives. Sen. Cruz may well not be familiar with that little bit of history. Especially with some of his law school professors being, shall we say, rather liberal. In any event: The law is the law. And we either live by the rule of law. Or we will die by suicide.
It will be difficult to truly carry out justice in a meaningful way as long as Merrick Garland is in charge.
