Following a 218-211 vote to oust Rep. Ilhan Omar from her position on the Foreign Affairs Committee, many Democrats had to let their thoughts be known following the ousting of the controversial Congresswoman from the committee. This included ”Squad” member, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who is no stranger to strange meltdowns, visibility crying, along with dramatic and exaggerated shouting about situations.
Ocasio Cortez decided to accuse Houe Republicans of ” targeting women of color” due to their vote to oust Omar. Ocasio-Cortez believes that Omar should be immune to any and all punishment because she is a Middle Eastern woman, however, House Republicans did not make the race of Omar out to be the issue, rather, the issue was her comments she’s previously made along with anti-Semitic remarks.
Ocasio-Cortez also accused House Republicans of being inconsistent, as they elevated Rep. Marjorie Tayor Greene after retaking a majority. Ocasio-Cortez compared Taylor Greene’s comments about “Jewish Space Lasers” to Omar’s comments about Israel. However, it can be assumed that when Democrats take power, they would have no issue barring Taylor-Greene from House Committees again, yet, elevating Omar to once again being allowed to participate.
During her rant, Ocasio-Cortez said:
“I think one of the things that we should talk about here is also one of the disgusting legacies after 9/11 — has been the targeting and racism against Muslim Americans throughout the United States of America… And this is an extension of that legacy!”
