Kathy Hochul’s 15-point lead dissipated down to single digits less than a month before the election. After a weak debate performance and Lee Zeldin capitalizing on Hochul’s inability to slow down crime in New York, Zeldin arose to become a legitimate candidate.

According to FiveThirtyEight, Kathy Hochul has a 7.8-point lead on election day. Hochul has maintained a slight lead over Lee Zeldin as the polls are coming to a close. Zeldin has said that at this point it’s a number game, and if more than 30% of New York City votes for him, then he should come out on top. While Hochul’s lead has dwindled away, she has maintained a 7.8-point lead, and currently, the door is still open to Hochul coming away with the win and getting reelected as Governor of New York.

NY Post reported about a Quinnipiac College survey that poll found most New Yorkers’ concern was with crime, ranking first in importance with voters at 28 percent. Coming in second was inflation at 20 percent, while “protecting democracy” came in third at 14 percent. Lee Zeldin has discussed crime throughout his run, and Zeldin, his team, and his supporters are hoping this will be enough to materialize into a win.

Real Clear Politics gives Kathy Hochul a 7-point lead, however, they also still consider the race to be a “toss up.”

We will release an update when a winner has been officially called.
