A video from President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign paying tribute to a man killed by Minneapolis police was banned from Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
The social media platforms say they banned the tribute to George Floyd because the videos used copyrighted photos and videos without permission. A California law firm representing one of the producers of the copyrighted images contacted Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube demanding the video be removed.
“Facebook and its subsidiary Instagram removed posts by official Trump campaign accounts that included videos narrated by Trump discussing Floyd’s death in Minneapolis. The narration is played over a series of photographs and videos that appear to have been taken during recent protests around the country over Floyd’s killing,” POLITICO reported.
“We received a copyright complaint from the creator under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and have removed the post,” Facebook spokesperson Andy Stone told POLITICO in an email. “Organizations that use original art shared on Instagram are expected to have the right to do so.”
Twitter also took action, blocking tweets of the video. Only YouTube has left the video up, claiming the video uploaded to their platform did not use the copyrighted images.
The Trump campaign accused the companies of “censorship.”
“Twitter and @Jack are censoring this uplifting and unifying message from President Trump after the #GeorgeFloyd tragedy,” @TeamTrump tweeted.

And the FCC allows discrimination and open attacks against individuals, and God Fearing Conservatives. News Media Outlets who claim to be fair and honest, are anything but fair or honest. They are closed platforms, and will censor, or delete, their opponents view point while pretending to be open, peaceful, and fair. The FCC was probably stacked by the previous administration, the same as the DOJ, the FBI, and the IRS was. Are there other Liberals planted in our government and News Media Outlets? Yes. Time to regulate social media.
Regulation always finds a way to backfire. I’d recommend busting these companies into at least two parts. The Sherman Antitrust Act is intended to eliminate monopolies. The last one resulted in Microsoft being divided into two parts: software and operating system.
Before that, AT&T was divided into (as I recall) seven parts. At the very least, the three big monopolies could be divided by geography or subject matter. After dividing them, free enterprise allows them to compete with each other as well as making it easier for new competition. Just sayin.
