One of the biggest figures in Chinese sports called upon his countrymen to overthrow Beijing’s Communist dictatorship.
In a nearly hour-long video, posted on the thirty-first anniversary of the pro-democracy protests in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square, retired soccer player Hao Haidong ripped into the Communist Chinese dictatorship, openly called for its overthrow and pledged his support for a new, free, government.
“The most fundamental reason that I spoke out today against the (Chinese Communist) system is that I think the Chinese people and China’s future should no longer be trampled upon by it,” says Hao.
“I think the Chinese Communist Party should be kicked out of humanity. The ghost of Communism should no longer be allowed to drift in this world. This is what I’ve concluded after 50 years of living.”
“The Communist Party’s totalitarian rule in China has caused horrific atrocities against humanity,” said Hao, calling the government a “terrorist organization” that has “trampled over democracy, violated the rule of law and dishonored lawful agreements.”
He also criticized Beijing for “brutally cracking down on Hong Kongers defending democracy and freedoms.” (RELATED: U.S. Responds to China Taking Hong Kong’s Freedom)
Hao is the all-time leading scorer in Chinese soccer history, scoring 41 goals in 102 career appearances for China’s national team and leading them to their only World Cup appearance, in 2002.
It is unknown from where Hao recorded the video, which appeared on the website of Chinese dissident billionaire Guo Wengei, who is leading a “New Federal State of China” opposition movement. He has a home in Spain, but it is not known if he recorded from the safety of exile.
Hao added he and his wife, a popular badminton star, are willing to accept whatever punishment the Communist regime hands him. “Today, we’ve made the biggest and most correct decision in our lives,” he says.
Word of the video spread quickly across China. It was quickly blocked, as are Hao’s social media pages and his pages on popular Chinese websites.
