Bernie Sanders plans on closing all privately-owned prisons and instead is offering to replace them with government-owned and operated prisons. He also prefers rehabilitation over punishment. While we agree that rehabilitation should be emphasized whenever possible, Sanders is keen to dismantle the criminal justice apparatus designed to target and contain violent offenders early on.
