While President Obama has spent hte last few months trying to have a useless conversation about so called “global warming”(or is it climate change? I’ve lost track) and gun confiscation, ISIS has run wild in the Middle East, establishing a steady base of operations and spreading their radical ideology at a feverish pace(despite being “contained”). In the interim, Russia intervened to support Syrian President Assad and fight against America’s mysterious allies on the ground. Eventually, we knew this would have consequences for some of America’s allies. It appears that “eventually” has arrived. As the Daily Beast notes:
The early hours of the morning of Nov. 24 began with a boom. The Israeli Air Force was hitting targets here in the Gaza Strip, shattering the pre-dawn quiet of this besieged coastal enclave.
Someone had shot a rocket over the Israeli separation barrier. Was it Hamas? Or Islamic Jihad? Was this the beginning of a new war?
Nope. Although no one claimed responsibility, the culprits almost certainly were from a small group calling itself the Sheikh Omar Hadid Brigade (SOHB), the affiliate in Gaza of the so-called Islamic State, or ISIS.
In an interesting development, ISIS is not allied with Hamas, but at odds with it, and part of a growing movement of Salafist extremists in the area. Hamas was an entity Israel could control. As the piece notes, these new extremists have more advanced weaponry and a global network behind them. If these groups ultimately find that it’s in their common interest to join together and attack Israel, America’s only true ally in the region could be in grave danger.
