Jeb Bush’s campaign is a one man refutation of the notion that money can buy elections. Several months ago, papers were talking about his election as if it was entirely inevitable. Now, he’s struggling to stay near five percent in the polls. Conservative writer Mark Steyn called him “Jim Gilmore with 100 million dollars, ” and a Saturday Night Live sketch featured Will Ferrell reprising his W role and bashing the enthusiasm generated by Jeb’s campaign.
Does any of this bother the hundred million dollar underdog? Apparently not…
During a Sunday interview with CBS’s John Dickerson, Jeb Bush reiterated his claim that he prefers not being the front-runner Republican presidential candidate.
“I feel much better back here,” Bush told the “Face the Nation” host. “I’ve always thought that there was going to be a high expectation for me. I totally get it.”
“Being a front runner made me feel like the people are going to begin to say, this guy is just dancing like through this.”
“I want to win, which means that you garner momentum when it matters, so I feel good about where we are right now.”
Desperation is a stinky cologne…
