In a deadlocked race between (R) Herschel Walker and his opponent (D) Raphael Warnock for U.S. Senate in Georgia, the polling in the late days of their campaign leading up to November 8th proved to be correct. The two candidates are split by only roughly 40,000 votes, with neither candidate breaking the 50% threshold needed to win a seat in the Senate.

As a result, the candidates will need to face off again. This time, in a run-off election that will take place December 6th. This will be an election only between (R) Herschel Walker and (D) Raphael Warnock, and Libertarian party candidate Chase Oliver will not be on the ballot.

Libertarian party candidate Chase Oliver performed well for a third-party candidate and captured 2.1% of the vote for a total of over 81,000 votes. Currently, Walker is losing by less than 40,000 votes, and if voters for the Democratic party don’t show up in large numbers as they did on November 8th, or, if they’re outnumbered by Walkers votes along with a portion of Libertarian voters, then Herschel Walker may be able to come out of the run-off election with a seat the U.S. Senate.

Throughout the race, Warnock has maintained a single-digit lead over Walker for much of the race until Walker took a last-second lead with just a few days out from the election. According to RCP, Walker had only led the race one other time; in late September, where Walker maintained a +0.5 point lead for a few days before the lead shifted back to Warnock. In early October, unverified allegations surfaced about Herschel Walker that hurt him in the polls for a number of days. However, Walker managed to battle back and had a good performance in his debate against Warnock. As a result of the comeback that Herschel Walker had, he was able to take a narrow lead in the polls just a few days prior to the election.
