Common English names for the following plants and animals have been targeted by woke scholars who find them offensive.
They’ve taken it upon themselves to become the arbiters of what’s politically correct in society today.
It is but the latest pompous example of the left attempting to move the goalposts in their war on free thought.
The American Association for the Advancement of Science confirmed the list came out of the ongoing protests and riots that have rocked cities across the country.
Here are the most outrageous examples:
Bobbit Worm
Rickard Zerpe via Wikimedia CommonsThe Bobbit Worm is a colorful worm that inhabits crevasses and tunnels on the ocean floor. What’s all the hullabaloo over its common name, you ask?
It inadvertently references sexual abuse and “regrettable” jokes ever since the John and Lorena Bobbitt, ahem, incident.
Cow Killer/Velvet Ant
Yellowstone National Park via Wikimedia CommonsDasymutilla occidentalis is not a “cow killer” nor an ant. Therein lies the rub with these persnickety naturalists. Cow Killer derives from its painful sting. Velvet Ant refers to the females, who are wingless and resemble that insect.
Asian Tiger Mosquito

Although we don’t understand how these liberal loons are either, considering the mosquitos’ IQ is around 0.1.
Townsend’s Warbler

We couldn’t find anything on Townsend’s Wikipedia page to compare to the racist sins perpetuated by Democrats like Andrew Jackson and Woodrow Wilson. Townsend died in 1851. Perhaps being a white man in the 19th century is enough for progressives to condemn you to the ash heap of history.
Electric Eel
