While Washington Salivated Over Comey, Gowdy Got Some BIG NEWS
South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy — a former prosecutor who led the Select Committee on Benghazi’s investigation into what happened during the 2012 terrorist attack — will take the helm of the powerful House Oversight and Government Committee after Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, leaves office later this month.

"I am grateful to the Steering Committee and the Conference as a whole for this opportunity to serve,” Gowdy said following his selection. The Steering Committee is a group of Republican leaders and representatives who decide committee chairs. Gowdy said he looked forward to working with the committee "as we discharge the jurisdiction assigned to us."

“Trey has my absolute confidence, and I know he will do an outstanding job,” House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis. said after the announcement.
