Trump's DOJ Gets Rid of Political Correctness

The Trump Administration has made a very subtle change of word choice—proving just how different they are than the Obama White House.

Under Trump, the Department of Justice—led by Attorney General Jeff Sessions—has started using the phrase “illegal aliens” to describe foreigners who are in the country without proper immigration paperwork. Since 2009, the Obama Administration had instead used the euphemism “undocumented immigrants” to describe these people.

While most Americans probably haven’t noticed the change—and many would presumably not even care which phrase the Department of Justice uses in press releases—leftist immigration activists are furious.

Xakota Espinoza, who works for the Center of Racial Justice Innovation, told that the phrase “illegal alien” is a “legally inaccurate term that’s deployed to unfairly label and scapegoat people who are out of status due to a variety of systemic circumstances.”

She added, “The i-word [illegal] is legally inaccurate, politically loaded, dehumanizing to the people it describes and likely unintentionally fuels racial profiling and violence directed toward immigrants.”

Trump has made combating illegal immigration into a cornerstone of his presidency—and it’s clear from the very language his administration is deploying that they don’t intend to stop anytime soon.
