President Trump's approval has been surging since passing the Republican-backed tax bill last month.

According to the RealClearPolitics polling average, Trump's approval now stands at 40.5 percent in polls conducted between December 11 and January 4. That's his highest showing in the RCP average since September.

It also looks like Trump's newfound popularity will continue to rise: his highest numbers come from the most recent polls.
When discounting the earlier polls taken in December 2017, and looking at the average of major polls so far in 2018, Trump's approval is even higher: 42.67 percent. That would be Trump's highest approval rating since May 9, around the time he controversially fired FBI Director James Comey.

Trump still remains historically unpopular for a first-year President. But, considering he won the White House in 2016 with just a 38.5 percent personal approval rating, it's clear that he's in far better shape than many of his critics are giving him credit for, unsurprisingly.
