Social Justice Warriors Conveniently Ignore Leftist Mass Murderer Statues

It is reasonable to assume any statues honoring Vladimir Lenin –whose kill count surpasses Genghis Khan – lies atop the left's list of insensitive monuments to raze to the ground. Not in New York City or Seattle.

Lenin initiated a reign of terror across Russia a century ago that Ivan the Terrible could have only imagined. Historians have thoroughly documented the construction of his gulags where millions perished and the murder of his political opponents. Not that this matters to progressive activists with a romanticized view of Marxism.

Their priorities lie elsewhere. Recently, Al Sharpton came out against the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C. In Chicago, Bishop James Dukes began a campaign to remove President George Washington's name from city parks.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has not responded to Duke's request, but city officials have scheduled a meeting with the pastor.

While Social Justice Warriors forcefully argue that any monuments promoting oppression – real or imagined – must fall, their blind devotion to monsters like Lenin and Mao Zedong reveals they have no appreciation for history.

Five Lenin statues stand undisturbed in the United States. In these communities, citizens hold Lenin in high regard. Activists always dress Seattle's Lenin statue in drag before the gay pride parade and adorn his head with a red star in time for Christmas.

So far, not a single liberal icon has called for the removal of Lenin's statues. We should not hold our breath.
