President Donald Trump went to Twitter to alert the public and urge the Justice Department, in no uncertain terms, not to let Debbie Wasserman Schultz's (D-Fla.) indicted ex-aide Imran Awan "off the hook" amid rumors federal prosecutors were receptive to a plea deal.

Awan worked for Rep. Schultz and other Democrats in an IT capacity. An ongoing investigation has "discovered evidence of procurement fraud and irregularities" and "numerous violations of House security policies."

It remains unclear if Awan was involved in a cyber breach operation. With the noose tightening last year, he attempted to flee but was arrested while boarding a flight to Pakistan from Dulles International Airport.

Per Fox News:

A court filing this week said a plea agreement hearing for Awan and his wife Hina Alvi has been set for July 3 before U.S. District Judge Tanya S. Chutkan in Washington.

The filing did not reveal any details about the terms of the apparent agreement. But in court documents last month, prosecutors hinted that a deal could be in the works.

“The parties are currently exploring a possible resolution of this matter,” prosecutors wrote. “Therefore, the parties are requesting additional time in which to explore that resolution.”

Investigators had tailed Awan and other Congressional Democrats' IT aides for months, going back to early 2017, over allegations of equipment theft, access to sensitive government servers, and more.
