Rep. Kyrsten Sinema, the Democrat running to replace Senator Jeff Flake in Arizona once portrayed American soldiers as skeletal ghouls doing the bidding of the evil military industrial complex. (The Daily Caller)

Local to Global Justice, a group Sinema co-founded, promoted a 2003 anti-Iraq War protest using flyers that read: “You can help us push back U.S. terror in Iraq and the Middle East.”

The flyers depicted three menacing skeletons, including a gun-toting soldier, looming over a crowd of protesters.

A local anarchist group also participated in the protest, according to CNN, which first reported on the inflammatory flyers.

“Kyrsten comes from a military family and is very proud of her record supporting Arizona’s servicemembers, veterans, and their families,” Sinema spokeswoman Helen Hare told CNN.

Sinema is running against Republican Congresswoman Martha McSally, America's first female fighter pilot.

RealClearPolitics' polling average gives McSally a +0.3 percent lead.
