German Chancellor Angela Merkel told President Trump that she “wishes” she hadn’t let over a million Middle Eastern immigrants into Germany—according to the leaked transcripts from the White House.

The transcript, which was leaked earlier this week, covers a call between President Trump and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull during the first week of Trump’s presidency.

At one point during the call, Trump and Turnbull discuss how Merkel’s plan to take in over a million refugees from Syria—and the repercussions its had on Germany.

“Look at what has happened in Germany. Look at what is happening in these countries,” said Trump. “These people are crazy to let this happen. I spoke to Merkel today, and believe me, she wishes she did not do it. Germany is a mess because of what happened.”

Turnbull agreed with Trump: “I agree with you, letting one million Syrians walk into their country. It was one of the big factors in the Brexit vote, frankly.”

Merkel, a conservative who attracted widespread praise from the left, has since dramatically scaled back her plans  for opening her nation to refugees from Syria—after her party posted tanking poll numbers, and a wave of Islamic terrorist attacks last winter soured public opinion.

Neither Merkel nor Turnbull has not responded as to whether or not Trump’s account of Merkel’s refugee regret is accurate.
