An ambulance sped down the road in Kabul, as you would often see in a city approaching five million.

Inside there wasn't a patient in need of surgery, but instead an improvised explosive device.

The stolen ambulance swerved off the road and into a crowded city square where the device denotated.

As the smoke cleared, 103 people lay dead. First responders found their mangled bodies strewn across the promenade.

Over 235 were wounded.

The Taliban – still a force 17 years after the United States invaded Afghanistan – claimed responsibility.
