California Governor Gavin Newsom sparked controversy before his swearing-in ceremony had even concluded.

An anti-sanctuary protester interrupted the proceedings at the State Capitol, yelling "I object!" (Fox News Insider)

The crowd began booing the man as he voiced his opposition to California's sanctuary state law and the lawmakers who support it.

"Corporal Ronil Singh's blood is on your hands! Shame on you! Shame on you!" the protester yelled as he was being walked out, referring to the California police officer who was gunned down last month, allegedly by an illegal immigrant who had prior arrests.

Mexican national Gustavo Perez Arriaga has been charged with Singh's murder, and critics of sanctuary policies have said that the officer's tragic death could have been prevented if state and local law enforcement were able to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.

In remarks just before his departure, former Gov. Jerry Brown said Singh's murder had "nothing to do" with the law.
