Despite a desperate last stand by members of the House Freedom Caucus tonight, it appears President Trump will not get a wall erected at least before the end of his first term.

The latest developments come as the administration has retreated from a shutdown fight and Senate Republicans plan to punt funding of the government into next year with a stopgap spending bill. (Breitbart)

The Freedom Caucus, sources with knowledge of the matter say views this fight this week as the last opportunity in the Trump administration’s first term to get wall funding for President Trump’s planned border wall. Next year, the Democrats take over the House majority on January 3, and likely incoming Speaker Nancy Pelosi is expected to block any attempts to build the wall along the U.S. border with Mexico. As such, if they are right by their logic, if Congress punts to February–as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is pitching with a continuing resolution in a strategy the White House seems to be backing–there will be no border wall before Trump faces voters again in November 2020.

Some predict President Trump will find himself in deep trouble if he fails to deliver on his long-vaunted wall to his base. Fox News host David Asman went so far as to compare today's developments to George H.W. Bush's "Read my lips: no new taxes" line that came back to haunt him.

Fox & Friends, the president's favorite show, commented on the "stunning turn of events," where Nancy Pelosi appeared to have outmaneuvered the White House.

Co-host Steve Doocy criticized the president saying if he agrees to sign a clean Continuing Resolution to keep the government open, he won't get anything for the wall while maintaining lavish funding for Congress, something he ran against as a candidate for president.

Doocy then said, "He loses and the Democrats will win."

Other prominent conservatives are voicing their displeasure.
