Fox News host Sean Hannity seemingly inserted himself into the House Oversight Committee's inquiry of President Donald Trump on air Thursday night, leading to speculation from legal minds and Democrats that he could be subpoenaed.

Roll Call's Ben Peters reports:

Hannity asserted to the president that Michael Cohen, Trump’s former attorney who testified in front of the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday, gave him information that conflicts with Cohen’s testimony.

Cohen explained to the committee that Trump directed him to make illegal hush money payments to pornographic film actress Stormy Daniels.

On Thursday Hannity told Trump “I can tell you personally, he said to me at least a dozen times, that he [Cohen] made the decision on the payments and he didn’t tell you.”

Hannity’s comment caught the attention of Democratic Rep. David Cicilline of Rhode Island.

National Security Lawyer Bradley P. Moss concurred with Cicilline, remarking on Twitter that "Hannity just made himself a witness in a congressional inquiry and the SDNY [Southern District of New York] probe."

Cohen's three-year prison sentence is scheduled to begin in May.
