A Venezuelan socialist leader issued an order to assassinate Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), according to U.S. intelligence.

Diosdado Cabello, a former Venezuelan military chief and the head of Venezuela’s ruling Socialist Party, has been locked in a public feud for the last few weeks. Rubio has been a strong critic of the country’s increasingly tyrannical government under President Nicolas Maduro.

The feud started on July 19 during a U.S. Senate hearing, when Rubio said that Cabello, who has been suspected of drug trafficking, is the “Pablo Escobar of Venezuela.”

A week ago, Cabello called Rubio “Narco Rubio” on Twitter.

The death threat against Rubio was outlined in a memo from the Department of Homeland Security. The memo revealed the “order to have Senator Rubio assassinated,” but admitted that “no specific information regarding an assassination plot against Senator Rubio has been garnered thus far”

However, while authorities can’t be positive when or where the assassination would occur—or if the threat is evening legitimate—they’re concerned enough that the U.S. Capitol Police has beefed us security surrounding Rubio.

Both the Venezuelan embassy in Washington and Rubio’s Senate office have declined to comment to the media.
