The murder rate of Washington, D.C. and Houston, two of the fastest growing cities in the country, is projected to rise. 

D.C. with its strict laws on ammunition purchases, firearm registration, and the transportation of guns – has a murder rate poised to expand by 39.5 percent, according to New York University's Brennan Center for Justice.

The center also reported Houston's homicide rate is set to rise by 22.6 percent. Further analysis is needed to understand the cause of these spikes.
