A white liberal male Congressman smeared a black, pro-life woman as “ignorant” as she told a congressional committee that abortion is decimating black communities.

Star Parker, a black pro-life woman who had four abortions in her life but has since become a pro-life activist, syndicated columnist, and founder of the Center for Urban Renewal and Education (CURE) — testified before the House Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice. The subcommittee invited Parker to discuss a bill called the Heartbeat Protection Act, which would require doctors to see if an unborn child had a heartbeat before performing an abortion. If the fetus had developed to the point of having one, the abortion would be illegal.

Parker criticized Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) for focusing on issues like Medicaid and food stamps, when the biggest issue facing the African-American community, in her mind, is abortion.

“Abortion is the leading cause of death in the black community today,” Parker said. “Since Roe v. Wade was legalized, 20 million humans have been killed inside of the womb of black women. And then on Halloween, Planned Parenthood tweets out that black women are safest if they abort their child rather than bring it to term. I think that it's important that we put on record that the needs of those that are most vulnerable in society cannot be addressed with abortion. Abortion feeds a narrative that women are victims, that they have no control over their sexual impulses."

“The result of [a victimhood] narrative being forced down into our hardest-hit communities, we are seeing now recklessness in sexual activity and marriage has collapsed," Parker continued.  "In the 50s, 70% of black adults were married. Today, that number is 30%. This is causing a lot more social pathologies that have to be addressed in different types of legislation, not the Heartbeat Bill. The Heartbeat Bill is to protect the innocent.”

But Cohen didn’t appreciate being dressed down by Parker. He then replied, “I’d also like to say that I am not disingenuous about anything I say about Medicaid or Medicare or SNAP programs. And to suggest  I’m disingenuous shows your ignorance or your absolute inability to deal with Congresspeople the way they should. I believe in those issues, and I think that they’re proper and to say I’m disingenuous is just wrong and I expect an apology.”

Cohen’s colleagues were, seemingly, shocked by his disrespect towards Parker. Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas), who was also in attendance, quickly jumped in: “I would ask for an apology from the gentleman from Tennessee [for] calling our witness ignorant when it seems to me she has a whole lot more knowledge and wisdom than—“

Cohen interrupted: “She’s ignorant about me!”

Rep. Steve King (R-IA), who serves as chairman of the subcommittee, jumped in — declaring both of his colleagues “out of order,” and quickly ended the hearing.
