Weighing on the Senate's efforts to confirm Trump's nominees is the possibility of more Cabinet shakeups before the year is out.

Former Attorney General Jeff Session received his long-awaited pink slip the day after the midterms. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross is reportedly next on the chopping block.

While it's unlikely for the Senate to have time to vet, debate, and vote on a Cabinet nominee, waiting until next year likely benefits Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). Republicans can expect to have between 52 and 54 seats, giving them a larger margin to confirm conservative nominees.
