John Conyers Jr. resigned from Congress after half a century when multiple women – on his staff – stepped forward with lurid allegations of repeated sexual harassment. One of them received a confidential $27,000 settlement. Conyers adamantly denied the allegations, claiming he wanted to step down so that the House Ethics Committee's inquiry into them would cease. The committee doesn't investigate former members. Isn't that convenient?
