A twice-deported illegal immigrant, once charged in the death of an infant, has been arrested in South Carolina. Again.

Carmen Flores-Bautista, 39, entered a guilty plea to illegal re-entry at a courthouse in Columbia, South Carolina.

This transgression isn't Flores-Bautista's first run-in with the law.

In December 2016, Flores-Bautista was working as a nanny and subsequently arrested in the death of a child left in her care. Allegedly, Flores-Bautista violently shook the 8-month-old infant, giving the baby a severe brain injury. Flores-Bautista was initially charged with great bodily injury to a child, but those charges were upgraded to homicide by child abuse after the baby died.

She was released on $150,000 bail for that crime, but the arrest put Flores-Bautista on Immigration and Customs Enforcement's radar, leading to the immigration charges.

It's unclear whether Flores-Bautista still faces charges in the death of the infant. But, when sentenced for illegal re-entry, she will face up to two years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000, as well as deportation to her native Mexico – in addition to any charges that may or may not stem from the child abuse homicide.
