John Conyers Jr. resigned from Congress after half a century when multiple women stepped forward with allegations of sexual harassment. One received a confidential $27,000 settlement – courtesy of the taxpayers.

Members of both parties in the House oversaw the victim-gagging slush fund, using an unlimited pot of taxpayer money to pay accusers from going public.

For his part, Conyers said he wanted to step down so that the House Ethics Committee's inquiry into the accusations against him would cease. The committee doesn't investigate former members. Isn't that convenient?
