The Miami-area Republican tended to vote in line with the President's agenda but remained wary of his unpredictable nature and rhetoric.

However, it's easy to imagine how Trump unquestioned ability to draw supporters to the polls could have erased Curbelo's 4,000 vote deficit to Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. 

In the end, Mucarsel-Powell blanketed the South Florida airwaves with ads focused on healthcare, turning out Democrats by appealing to their most important issue, while Curbelo never received the much-heralded Trump bump.
